is this rover? can anyone date it for me

Looks like the optional extra radiator cap off an early car perhaps P2 / Rover 12. Although it should be chromed

Not sure of the age, I suspect pre war.
 
That's a fabulous part to exist on any car. I hope it is Rover :O) Totally pointless, and almost the definition of class :O)
 
I also have one of those! Mine was the radiator cap from "Old Faithfull" our family's first car and a 1929 Rover 10Hp with Weyman fabric body. I don't think they survived into the Wilkes era - so latest would probably be 1932 model year. I'm told there are a lot of reproductions around though. Ours is definitely not chromed. Whether or not it was coloured is now uncertain.

Thanks for the replies guys, talking to a friend yesterday, he mentioned his father worked for Rover back in the day and hinted it may be as old as 1933.
