Irish Rovers

So Cal V8

I have just returned from a two month stay in Ireland - during my time there I didn't see very many classics on the road. There was an orange MGBGT that I saw in and around Dunshaughlin, but I was always driving so I didn't have a chance to snap a picture of it. In all the time I spent driving around I only saw three Rovers - well, classics anyway.

I saw this one in Charlestown on July 23, just at the end of the M2.
And then this one lives down the road from my parent's house in Dunshauglin...
The only P6 I saw was in Navan town center, but I didn't get a picture of it and it seems no one here knows the car.

Still, it's a whole lot more than I see driving down my local streets.

They are out there...! Have had a couple of folks pull up along side me in the P6 and snap pics as well. Almost ran over a bloke in the shopping center parking lot jumping in front of me and taking a pic, then wanting to chat in midst of traffic! My wife and I are hoping for trip to Ireland and Scotland in next few months. Always on the lookout for old classics myself.

Well spotted!

The ZV plate indicates a recent import, usually from the UK during Ireland's economic bright spot.

I grew up in Waterford and I remember in the early 80s seeing P6s running around, usually that *lovely* hearing-aid-beige colour or brown. Never any V8s, we were a very base-model nation!

I was something of a carchaeologist as a young fellow, and explored farms and fields throughout the southeast picking chrome trim and badges out of long-abandoned vehicles in ditches and vegetation. No MOT meant that a lot of the Austin A40s and Ford Anglias stayed on the roads long after their bodywork had started to crumble and I remember seeing cars with rust holes I could fit my hand through drive casually past.

There were legions of Morris Minors, the occasional XJ6, and even Citroen DS' scattered about the place but I never saw a dumped P6, they were always on the road.
