Ive just bought an under bonnet paint colour label for my P6 off ebay .The seller wants 4.75 to post to NZ .Im wondering if that includes the whole car .Has overseas postage out of UK gone up incredibly .If so ebay will die Is this a case of buyer beware. I did not not get a postage quote first or another ebay seller rip

I'd certainly expect to pay at least £3.50. Our PO has just introduced a new rule whereby if the packet doesn't fit into a certain size envelope (sorry!) the price skyrockets. So his price doesn't sound outrageous, especially bearing in mind he's actually going to have to visit a, now few and far between, PO rather than just sticking a stamp on it and in the post box.

I would have thught that the label in question would fit in to a normal small envelope, and if it's not sent air mail shouldn't cost that much. Having said that I agree with Chris that the cost of postage has risen a lot.

If it is an ebay sale, the seller possibly wants to send if by International Signed For Delivery, as if it is lost in the post or declared not received, it is the vendor that is taken to be at the fault and has to refund the buyer with the cost of the item and refund the postage.
(ebay will automitically refund the buyer - the vendor has no say in the matter).
So under ebay new rules, both buyer and seller suffer.

Its hardly worth sending int signed for,for a £2 sticker is it?
Yeah right - paid 2.50 for the sticker wants 4.70 to send in an envelope .
Thanks for all the feedback P6OC people ,
Will ask for a quote next time before I bid
Scotts old rubber does a better deal in hindsight .I have a lot of hindsight if someone wants some .Free with no postage either .What a bargain .Maybe I could auction my hindsight on ebay

Maybe he's keeping the price low to minimise EBay's charges and making it up on the postage?

There's one seller who does belts (for trousers ) for £1 each on this very basis

NZ postal charges have become outrageous over the last 6 months so much so that it is cheaper for me to courier items door to door than use the postal system.

Hmm. Seems like we're all having trouble with privatised postal systems. The global economy no doubt which as I'm sure you'll all agree, is doing us the power of good at the moment.
