Inserting Grommets

Hi All,

I just picked up some Rover bits, among them a bonnet prop grommet. This grommet is a very stiff rubber, and I'd like the forum's opinion and DIY home grown inventions and methods of grommet insertion. This one's a right bug*er.

Cheers,
Brian.

Hi Brian,

When I refurbed the TR6, I bought a full car grommet/bung kit and fitted new grommets, bungs everywhere I could easily access !
Some were nice 'n' easy, others were a swine!
Tried using oil but the little buggers just slipped out of my hands.
Eventually I soaked the harder ones in boiling water for 5 mins or so until soft, gave the metal area a very light WD spray, then quick as I could while still boiling hot and really soft, and wearing my handy thick marigolds!! put them in place!!
One of the big ones I suspended on a wire hook in a full boiling kettle and that worked a treat!
It took a couple of attempts on 1 or 2 fiddly ones!! But they went in!!
Lots of patience and persistence will get the job done!!

Dave

Thanks all for your comments.

Got it - You're right Dave - I boiled the sod, sprayed it with Silicone Lubricant (great stuff that) and heaved and grunted and we're in!!

Cheers!
Brian.
