Indicator Problem

Hi all,

Right hand indicators started to play up yesterday. Left hand is working fine, flashing both sides, but driver side - rear indicator stays on when stalk is activated to turn right, no flash and front indicator doesn't light at all. Thought it would be a bulb, but checked it and replaced it even, but it's fine.

Hazards work OK both sides.

Is it possible for the flasher unit in the drivers "gloevbox" to play up like this for just one side? Should I check for poorly seated fuse also maybe?

Thanks

Oops, that'll teach me to read posts properly.

If I remember correctly, the other item that has caused mine to play up in the past is the hazard switch itself - which is actually part of the indicator circuit. So I'd try exercising it a bit to see if anything changes.

Does the right hand indicator warning lamp light come on when operated?

I reckon it will come on and stay on, just like the rear indicator on that side.
I'd say there was a break in the circuit to the OSF indicator between the indicator switch, and the point where the hazard circuit joins up to the indicator circuit.

Thanks guys for all the help - I love this forum!

I was wrong in the original post, when I checked again I found that although both lights on the dash flashed, the actual bulb wasn't illuminating when I checked outside again d'oh!

So, as correctly advised, there was a bad earth behind the light fitting in the front wing. Fiddle with wires and hey presto, problem solved.

One of my everyday cars is in for MOT today, and the Mrs. had our mondeo, so Cameron was my only motor for the school run, and guess what, while fiddling in the glovebox, I manage to break the ignition circuit and the ignition dies - 20 minutes before school pick up time

Anyway, traced a dodgy wire back to fuse 3 on the box? I think it might be something to do with a previously fitted, but now inactive alarm system.

If I open the glovebox and move the wire the engine dies until I wiggle it again :D - so further fiddling required at the weekend. I plan to recover the vinyl quarter panels with a friend who knows what he's doing, so we'll take a look together then.

Cheers for the assist as always folks.
