Ignition buzzer

In the federal 3500S there is supposed to be an ignition buzzer that buzzes when you open the door and ignition is on etc. In one car there is one but I can't work out where it is, in the other one is doesn't work. I don't like to put a battery in it because some wires have been snipped along the passenger footwell.
I think it is near the flasher unit/hazard flasher unit and there is a snipped PY wire.. Does anyone have any experience with these? It should work! It's not in wiring diagrams I have.

Hello Andries,

The snipped PY wire, is probably the pick up point for the heated rear window, so I guess your car hasn't got a heated rear. You should find the other end of this wire, near the main fuse box. It should be disconnected both ends.

The ignition buzzer unit is the cylinder shaped item, behind the glovebox on the drivers side. There should be a live feed to it ,P wire, then from buzzer unit to the door operated switch in the 'A' pillar, PY wire, then from there to the ignition switch, PW wire. The ignition switch then earths the circuit. So to make it work, assuming all wires & connections are O.K., is to leave the key in & open the door. It does make a very annoying noise though!

Good luck,
Roly.

Why would you??
I have this 'feature' on my modern car......... Absolutely infuriating! And why do I need to be told I have left my keys in the car? I can't lock it without them :?

Because I want this car completely free of electrical faults. Having recently bought it I don't trust any of the electrical work that has been done or has failed over the past 40 years. If there's anything to be disconnected I'll rather do it myself. But I will probably disconnect it soon, if you could hear ants dying ; it'll sound like that.

Anyway, I've found the problem. Plastic plunjer was broken, replaced it with one I nicked of a scrapyard car and it's working fine now apart from the fact that the key is to wobbly in the ignition  .
