HT Lead Lengths

Hi All,

Does anyone have a pukka spec for HT lead lengths including the coil lead? If not, I'll have to go find my steel yardstick! :D

Hello Stan,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding your P6B 3500S V8.

As Magnecor are very particular about lead lengths and attention to detail, we do not list a lot of vehicles as we have not had access to them to spec up
a very good fitting set to original routing and lead holders.

We would be more than happy to make you a set if you wish to furnish us with the correct information etc.
I can send you our form which would make it easier for both of us, if you wish!
I would guess the set would be similar to a SD1 V8, maybe with a different coil lead length etc.

Please let me know if I can be any help.

Best regards
Phil de Wit

Hi,
Do you do lead sets for the above please? The car doesn't appear to be listed in your website catalogue.

Kind regards,

Hi Stan,

I found a steel tape measure useful

Seriously though, use their form which has a diagram of the distance that they want you to measure.

I found Phil de Wit good to deal with, if a trifle over-worked. He always phoned me back, if a few days late!

They made me up a smashing custom set for my 4 pot, complete with old spark plug boots which are very peculiar to the 4 cylinder that I supplied to him for the fitting.

Good company to deal with.

Hi Stan,

I have a set of Magnecor leads in the garage so I'll go down and measure them and let you know. In the mean time, all lead sets for the P6B regardless of year of manufacture and transmission type are of the same length and specification in so far as end fittings...be they straight or 90 degree are concerned.

They are different for the SD1 and for Land and Range Rovers etc even though they too had Rover V8 engines. It is just that different equipment, ancillaries and locations resulted in different lead lengths and ends where necessary.

I'll write back with the lengths shortly,
Ron.

Hello Stan,

The following are the Magnecor lead lengths from my original set of leads that I fitted to my 3.5 litre engine in July 1989. They worked without fault for the next 18 years and 130,00 miles (209,000km) and were only replaced as I wanted a new set to go with my new engine.

The measurements were taken to include the portion within the ends, so once cut and the ends fitted the lenghts will be essentially be those as outlined.

All measurments are in cm. Leads 1, 3, 5, 7 are straight fittings whilst the others are 90 degree. The distributor to coil is straight with a 90 degree fitting at the coil end. This follows the original Lucas configuration for the P6B.

Thanks Ron, that's great.

There's a generic aftermarket set fitted to my V8 at the moment, and they don't seem quite right on a couple of the lead lengths. I'll check what your lengths look like against them.

Cheers,

Hi Ron,

I'm about to order a set of Magnecors, do you remember the correct length for the coil lead at all?

Hello Tor,

I just saw your post and having overlooked to list the length before, I popped down to my garage to have a look.

The coil lead has a straight fitting where it meets the distributor and a 90 degree fitting where it meets the coil. The length is 47cm.

Magnecor are excellent leads, I feel positive you won't be disappointed.

Ron.

Hi Ron

Thanks a lot for that! I'm also confident they'll be great, would be marginally happier had the 8mms been available in black... But there it is :)

Hoping those, an electronic points replacemt module and correct oil in dashpots will be the end of
my persistent misfire, unless the carbs have sludge in them too.

Regards Tor
