How to remove a Webasto roof!

I am about to pain my car and have had to remove the webasto roof - so I can avoid trying to mask the rear edges and also as the outer cover is past its best I may replace it.
Slide the roof 1/2 way back, look in between the inner and outer cover - there are 3 press studs each side carefully pop these off then ease the outer cover off them by pulling away from the car. This made everything looser and more access. I could not remove the four screws visible on the inner cover from inside the car so they will have to wait. Next remove all the slot headed screws holding the back to front channels and the alloy strip across the front of the car. Then remove the 2 posi drive screws at the rear of each channel. TIP! with the slotted screws make sure you have a very good fitting screw driver, if they are tight, put the driver in the slot and give it a couple of whacks with a hammer then start to tighten the screw, once it moves a little you can usually unscrew it ok.

Pull the roof foward a bit and look at the gap between the inner and outer covers at the rear - you will find a strip of wood covered with head cloth material going right across the car, gently pull this off the car, the wood snaped on mine but no damage to material. Now stand in the car and lift the whole roof up and back, laying it on the rear window. You can now see how the rear of the top cover is fixed to the car - remove the wire cable which is held in place by nails, then remove the posivdrive screws which run across the back of the roof, 4 of mine just snapped off, when these are released the whole outer/inner roof can be removed from the car, then lift off the seal and thats that.

its totally in bits now - over cover is shot, http://www.tudorwebasto.com

HAVING JUST SPENT A DAY PLAYING AROUND WITH A KNACKERED TUDOR WEBASTO ROOF,TO SEE HOW IT FITS, ON A CAR IVE JUST BOUGHT. I NOW KNOW ITS NOT GOING TO BE AN EASY JOB TO REMOVE A GOOD ROOF WITHOUT DAMAGING EITHER THE PANEL OR HEADLINING. I WAS HOPING TO UNBOLT THE DONOR HUNTSMAN ROOF COMPLETE AND BOLT IT ONTO MY CAR!!!! NO SUCH LUCK!!! SO I CHOPPED IT OFF AT THE PILLARS!! THE REST OF THE CAR WAS FULL OF TIN WORM, IN FACT, I AM SURE THE CAR BENT WHEN THE ROOF CAME OFF IN ONE BIG HEAVY SECTION,THE "TIN WORMS" DONOT TAKE ANY PRISONERS,EVEN ON VERY LOW MILES CARS! I HAVE FOUND THAT YOU HAVE TO STRIP THE WHOLE LOT DOWN EXTREEEEEMLY CAREFULLY,IN ORDER TO PUT IT BACK IN UNDAMAGED CONDITION. ONCE THE SWAP IS DONE, I AM GOING TO PUT MY GOOD BROWN VYNIL ROOF,1/4 PANELS & H/LINING BACK ON THE PRACTISE CAR, A 1973 2000TC MANUAL, AS THE INNER SHELL HAS BEEN TOTALLY RESTORED, SEATS RECOLOURED,PANELS MOSTLY GOOD,AND RUNS SWEET. NOW ALL IVE GOT TO DO IS WAIT FOR TWO GOOD DAYS TO COMPLETE THE SWAP OVER, X MY FINGERS, AND HOPE I DONT DO ANY DAMAGE!!! I MAY WELL BUY A COVER AND RESTORE THE OTHER ROOF!!! ANYBODY DONE THIS JOB?????? ALL AND ANY TIPS, HINTS, ADVICE, WELCOME. LETS HOPE WE HAVE THE WEATHER SO I CAN USE IT!!!!!!! DAVE

I got an new outer cover from the firm noted above - they quoted £95 and I sent the old front and rear plates in so they could take appropriate measurments - without my authority they went and fitted the plates to the roof and charged my CC £225+carrage and VAT. I'm in the process of trying to get a refund direct with them, otherwise credit card co will be getting told and I'll probably get the whole amount back. I hope the put it back on this weekend and dont see any real problems I did not remove any of the headlining so thats a bonus!

I guess you could remove the pillar trims, front and rear screens, cut the pillars, and weld the other roof back on !

(Please note, this is not a serious suggestion, but probably feasable, although without a lot of work the resulting roof pillars would be weaker than original)

PHEW!!!!!! IT WAS EASY!!!!! I JUST HAD TO BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE HEADLINING,AS IT HAS TO BE PUT "INTO" THE CAR BEFORE THE, ROOF PANEL WITH PLENTY OF SEALANT, GOES ON,I LEFT THE F&R GLASS IN SITU, THEN ITS JIGGLED AND SCREWED LIGHTLY INTO ITS POSITION BY ONE PERSON,cheers bruv!!! WHILST BEING HELD UP BY ME IN THE MIDDLE. AND THE WEATHER STAYED GOOD FOR ITS TEST DRIVE. I WASNT GOING TO DO THIS JOB, JUST USE THE TR6, BUT I,M GLAD I DID,IT GIVES THE CAR A NICE LOOK TO IT. THANKS TO RICH AT P6SPARES FOR THE HUNTSMAN ROOF. CHOPPING THE DONOR ROOF OFF IS BY FAR THE QUICKEST OPTION, IF THE REST OF THE CAR "IS" PAST IT. BUT I DO AGREE!! NEVER, EVER, ATTEMPT TO WELD ONE BACK ON!!!!!!!ITS NOT SAFE!!!! BOLTS ARE BRILL!!!!!! DAVE
