HIF6 sticking needle valve.

The needle valve, inside the float chamber of my HIF6 is sticking. This is causing the mixture to lean off and causes the usual manner if problems associated with too lean a mixture.

I've bought an overhaul kit and replaced the needle seat and needle valve, yet the new set up seems to stick also.

I've then chopped and changed the old and new set of valves and seats and they still seem to stick.

Am I missing something here? Shouldn't the movement be pretty smooth with little friction?

edit- posting rubbish, that'll teach me for skim reading!

Is everything spotless in there? The tiniest speck of crud is enough to cause all kinds of grief, do you have a filter before the carbs?

I presume as its lean its sticking shut?
Have you set up the float correctly?
Is the float hinge ok and not got a sticky point?
Got the cover on the right way round?

Is this a retrofit ?
In your footer it says you have a 2000TC which had HS8 carburettors fitted not an HIF6's. The HIF6 was fitted to later V8's and the 2200's.

Hi Guys,

I took this apart again the other night and cleaned it thoroughly. on reassembly it seems to be working just fine now. Not entire sure what the issue was. I have, however, ensured that the float screw/hinge isn't screwed in too tightly.

It now seems to do it thing though I'll find out sure enough once its fitted back onto the car.

P.S

Its HIF6's in question are on 1972 3500 v8, which I have over here in Australia. I do also own a 2000tc and a second Oz build v8. I'll eventually get round to re-editing the footer to state so.
