HI my name is Rebecca (bob) and im not a P6 owner yet, but thought I would introduce myself and say hi, I have various other austin cars and just looking to know what to expect from P6 ie running, problems etc....

Hi Rebecca! I reckon if you've got a couple of hours to spare then a good browse through this site will give you a good feel for what it's like to own and run a P6. They're a wonderful car - despite a succession of moderns, some of them brand new, I can never bring myself to give up my P6. Get a good one, be prepared to look after it, and I doubt you'd find a better, more useable classic car.

Hi Rebecca/bob,

Whereabouts are you? There's likely to be a few forum members local to you who'd gladly show you round their cars over a cuppa and point out things to look for. Are you looking for a 4-pot, or a V8?

Welcome aboard by the way! :)

Cheers,

Hi Bob! Welcome to the P6 forum.

Bob is fairly local to me, and owns (amongst other cars) an MG Metro, Austin Metro automatic and an Austin Maestro (which is the lowest mileage one outside of Gaydon).

I have a very soft spot for Maestro's. I had a 2.0D as my first new car. Upgraded it with front and rear anti roll bars, improved front brakes and LE side strakes (Remember those Bob?) and a turbo top spoiler on the back door. The latter added at least 5 mph to the top speed and noticeably improved consumption. Blindingly good car. But my exuberant use of the handling did tend to crack the body welds!!

Chris

I knew someone who had a concours low mileage MG Maestro Turbo

They weren't bad cars , I had a 1.3 L for a while as a company car

Hi Chris, my first car was a 2.0D clubman, drove me over 45k before I sold it, excellent mpg average 50mpg. The shell still exists, but the engine was sold to a landrover bloke by its new owner. The low mileage maestro has the strakes on! its only an l spec model, these from what paperwork I have came as standard on early ones, then vaised out to only the hle model. I have a friend who has a 13k HLE. Quite a few low mileage ones keep popping up. Just glad we saved the 6k car as no one had enquired about it and the people were moving soon! so god knows where that would have ended up! this is our 2nd 6k maestro the first one, we sold to a friend for grand sum of £50 he made a lot of promises and none were kept 6 months later the car was scrapped and crushed!

I had an mg maestro turbo a few years back, was totally rotten! engine didn't run, Paul got it to finally run, but it belched out smoke like a steam train, need a new turbo seals and head gasket amongst other things (was going to be a project) but it sat for too long and a friend who is into turbos has it now. The rarer ones now are the MG montego turbo's less than 200 survive from a production figure of over 7000. I know of a few that exist near me. I've had a few 1.3's, the mayfair was brilliant for mpg, handling could be better if they had a front anti roll bar fitted.

Hi

Montego Turbo - petrol or diesel ?
Wheelarches rotten ?

Hi its a petrol. Wheel arches have been replaced by previous owner. Engine has had an extensive rebuild by the previous owner too.....

Yes, the car is a 420Il fitted with an engine from a Rover 620Ti. The boost has been would up to 10.5psi, which is about the same as the Monty as standard. I've also got Spax RSX coilovers on my car.
