Hello everyone
Im James Dean i am almost 21 and i live in Cumbria. I got my first car yesterday, a Tobacco Leaf P6 Three Thousand Five. Its a genuine 43000 mile car which needs some work in areas but hoping to get it looking smart next year. It is nice to finally have my first car which i have always fancied being a V8 Rover.
Thanks

Will you be using it through the winter or putting it away?

Dave

Thanks Dave
well i cant afford to insure it just yet hoping to pay the lot off in one go, will look into that next month when im 21 so it wont get used much over winter other than firing her up now and again.

Hello and welcome to the forum, James! Lovely car, and I must admit I'd love a 3500 S1 at some stage! Whereabouts in Cumbria are you based? I'm down there a lot in my P6, thrashing around the passes.

Hi James nice car mate, i think the series one V8 is the best one to own . they always look so good. Its great to see more young guys like you buying these cars and it will help to keep these old rovers on the road. Enjoy your car and have loads of fun in it. they are great cars to drive but i guess you know that.
welcome

Looks awesome, like mine but with the wheel on the wrong side :) and err, better in just about every way...

Ask Santa for some stainless steel wiper blades and a Simonbbc ignition kit - I know I have.

More pics please.

You may also have noticed in the last few months 3 tobacco series 1 v8s....

Hi James,

Welcome to the forum. :) Lovely looking Rover that you have there, tobacco leaf really suits the series 1 models.

This is a wonderful place with a wealth of information, so I know that you will enjoy the time that you spend here.

Don't be afraid to ask questions on here . So many willing to help keep these things alive and going .
There are a number of improvements available with your own involvement and a little help from your friends on here .

Hello everyone

thanks a lot for all you're welcome messages i can tell i'm in a good place here.
the S1 is my fave if im honest and i have been a fan of the tobacco leaf colour since i sat in a 2000tc in the same colour at a show once.
I will try my best to keep this girl going and keep her as original as i can. Might be a while before im posting a members projects thread but i promise they will be one.

PeterZRH ive got some stainless wipers in the watch list and it all ready has an electronic ignition, not sure on the make. more pics on the way.

FrazzleTC Im based in Kirkby Stephen just down the road from Brough on A66. When im insured next year and she has had a good service i might be on a few passes myself :)

Thanks again to all of you

best regards
James

heres some more pics

all seems tidy, the plan is to restore the engine bay as much as i can, the inside will get a good clean up too. the main job im looking forward to is undersealing the chassis and wings etc :)

Hi James,

Your car makes me want a S1 again. I like the look of that radio! Details??

That engine bay looks all right too, and will shine once the air box gets a coat of satin black!

Tor

That's a nice car you have there James. With a bit of time and effort over winter you should have that engine bay nice and neat. The wings come off really easily and you can unclip the wiring loom (label the connections with luggage tags) and rest it over the engine whilst you spray the inner wings. Have a look at my project post below and you'll see how I did it without removing the engine.

Looks like it's got a Lumenition ignition kit fitted - you can see the heat sink on the inner wing near the coil.

Hi Tor thanks a lot the radio is original and works (ive had a bit of classical on it) its a radiomobile i have got a fair bit of paperwork with this car including instructions for the radio. I hope to stick an 8 track in eventually.
