Just registered, have owned this current Rover P6B since 1987 there-abouts it a 1975 manufactured here in NZ at the Nelson Rover factory and is complete unrestored but not in need of any restoration as has been maintained its entire life and is still like new interior wise and mechanically very sound. It has had some modifications such as the Weber 500 carb and Edelbrock upgrade, SD1 mags and 205 tyres fitted, recently changed all the shock absorbers and changed all the rubber suspension bushes I could find, am contemplating a Mallory Unilite Distributor upgrade to maximise spark and to through away the points.

Hello Graeme,

good to know that GT-6630 is still alive :D (we have had a little email correspondence back in 2003, you remember?)

Rudiger

Hi Rudiger, good to hear from you hopefully your Rover endevours are progressing well. I have no intention of selling this car and whilst it gets less driving than I would like it is always ready to do service for me.

Graeme

Graeme,

Beautiful car. Are you a member of the Canterbury Rover Car Club?

Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris, no unfortunatly I am not a member but I intend to join, lol, but intention has taken a long time to turn into action. I purchased this car whilst living in Nelson (NZ) in 1987 and had several approaches at that time to join the Nelson Rover club as I knew several of its members but being busy with work never got around to it but as the years have progressed my time has become a little more free so I am now more inclined.
I dont know if it's just the colour or good looks of this car but it has always invoked comment when fulling up with petrol at gas stations for all the years that I have owned it like no other car I have owned, maybe one of the joys of owning such classic cars?

Hi Graeme,
It's also because they're a lot more rare these days. A decade ago, you would see a couple of P6's on the roads; these days, you don't even see an SD1 or an 800. Although, that said, I was driving past The Palms at xmas and saw an SD1 driving past for the first time in ages..
I was in the Nelson club for a while when I was based at Woodbourne, but have been involved with the Canterbury club on and off for over 20 years now. My dad is still a member and has swapped his SD1 for an older model 800 hatch.
By all accounts, the club isn't as active as it used to be, but is still good as a reference source should you ever need any local advice.

SD1 scourge of the planet  , glad I got that off my chest, those machines remind me too much of Austin Princess HL's and good as the SD1 may have been i have always disliked their plasic nature and cheapish 70's looking interiors.

I have seen quite a few P6B in regular use around Christchurch in the last few years and even the odd "new one" pops up occasionally all in very good looking (superficially) condition. I look forward to the future and my hope is that those same cars will still be seen in use on the roads around NZ. It amazes me the number of people who restore very sad Rovers unlike other British 60's and 70's cars which have well and truely rotted away in wreckers yard or have gone to the car crusher. Here in NZ our biggest boon is that the local authorities dont spread salt on the roads in ice conditions and this has extended the life our old cars compared to the UK.
