just showing my new rover,got it off ebay as you do ,got ripped off as you do (well sort of) picked it up drove off in it 5 mins down road water oil everywhere ,head gasket gone , so the aa took it home ,anyway its a 43000 miles and total rot free and i mean rot free cant find any anywhere , so engine is out and im rebuilding it gearbox naff so i have a spare , and its off for a full respray,

You either need to clean up your old photo use files or use photobucket as a host and linkto them instead as that doesnt fill up your allocated space!
Was the car ok on the test drive,oil and ,water levels,and temp ok? were you just unlucky!
 
If it is indeed rot free , then the mechnicals are secondary in importance .A head gasket is not difficult and you can use it as a chance to check the valves /do a lead free conversion etc .However the seller may want to make a donation .....
 
They do sometimes just go pop. Just old age. Mine was fine for a couple of moths after I got it then the engine / brakes let go in spectacular fashion. Like yours my base unit is solid so worth saving.
