I don't really know how old the alarm is, and it hasn't worked when I've tried it so far, but I'll have another shot and see whether it works.

Doubt that its period, I remember seeing those sirens in Hella catalogs back in the late 80's and 90's, from memory they are devilishly loud, they are of the traditional motor/moving vane type like you hear from old movies of prison breaks etc the wailing single tone type.
