heater blower motor

looking for comments on the blower.

On the lever it has numbers 1,2,3. I don't feel there is a difference between 2 & 3.

My unit may be dodgy, has anyone improved theirs or replaced with better units? I am happy enough with the heat it just takes for ever to demist the front screen.

I had a problem with mine a while back, not with the fan level but the other lever for temp/direction. They have a Heath Robinson set of levers that connect to the sides of the heater matrix unit, which sits under the front decker panel and mine had pushed too far one way and got stuck, but the lever still moved on the dash.

With the engine out (dont you love helpful hints that start that way!) it was easy to get at and unbolt the heater and push the control arms back.

Dont know if there is anouther way of getting at the matrix, but boy do I wish I had done it in Autumn not Spring

If anyone else has an idea let us know!

I had a similar problem with the fan speed on the heater in my V8. When I moved switch between 2 & 3 there was no difference in fan speed. When I removed the mechanism, from the side of the lower facia, if I remember via removing two nuts at the rear, the metal button at position 2 had arced probably because of dirty contact with lever, and had melted into the plastic stepped washer. This then allowed the button to touch earth and so connect circuit making fan run at fastest speed. Normally position two circuit would connect via I believe a resister to slow fan to around half speed.

I fixed problem by removing button carefully, replacing with a plastic washer found in my tool box and then aryldite back in place. Obviously you will need to clean the face of the metal button and the lever to prevent problem happening again.

It may be that your fan speed is running at full speed at all times, so if your not getting much heat then problem could also be blocked matrix. I would suggest you check both areas.

Thanks for that.

I think it is working to the 2nd speed and not the 3rd. I know the car is 26years old and not the same as modern cars but I feel that I should get a more forceful effort from it.

I will have a poke around the only problem I have with the blower is that it takes forever to demist.

Was curious whether anyone had upgraded with a blower from another car?

This sounds exactly how mine was working when I first bought our 1968 Three Thousand Five The first speed worked but not the second (noisy and fast - You would notice if this wasn't working) - One of the wires was detached from the back of the switch, inside the centre consol - It was (simply!) a matter of removing the speaker grill and finding the loose wire with spade connection and re-fitting it to the back of the heater fan switch.
I hope your problem is this simple to fix.
Regards, John.
