headlight flasher

Hi,

Got a problem - the headlight flasher isn't working. It was fine then one day just stopped! I've checked fuses and I've had the stalk out - the switch seems ok. Theres power to it because the main beam works. Any ideas? Is there a relay that could have given up?

Hello Nick,

You will need to use a suitable file such as a magneto file on the contacts and give them a good clean. When you use the switch to flash the headlights, the contacts within the switch carry the full current load, hence they suffer burning and eventually fail as yours have done now. Cleaning them with a file should restore operation.

I had this problem the opposite way around with flash working and no main beam. The fuse contacts at the top end of the fuse had suffered heat damage and only the flash side was making contact with the fuse.

Check the contact with both sides of the fuse as the flash and steady main beam comes off the opposite contact of the same end of the fuse. For mine it was top fuse contact LHS for main beam and RHS contact for flash.

Problem sorted! It was the fuse holder that wasn't holding the fuse correctly. O cleaned up the contacts as well for good measure. Many thanks.
