Harmonic balancer.

Hi. Whiterover here. I now have the crankshaft, main bearings and have ordered the big end shells from Wadhams, so some progress is being made. I am taking the time to prepare parts like in the pic. I am wondering if anyone can tell me what the peg attached to the harmonic balancer is for.
