Grinding from NSF on right hand turns

Hi Everyone,

I've bought a P6 V8 to use everyday, but before I start using it there are a couple of serious issues I need to sort out.

The first, and probably the most Important is that there is a serious grinding noise when going around roundabouts or taking right hand turns. It happens at anything over about 15mph and sounds pretty serious. A quick visual check has revealed nothing hanging off, dust guard on the disk is fine, I can't see any evidence of the wheel rubbing etc so I'm a bit stumped. I thought it may be the wheel bearing and it was a bit loose, I've nipped it up and things are no better.

I'm hoping to have a look later tonight but I wondered if anyone had any ideas what it could be?!?

Thanks in advance.

That's what I'll look for then...there were no obvious witness marks, and it only does it on right hand turns which is odd. I'll have a better look in the garage later.

shot gearbox/rear diff mount allowing the propshaft to touch the body somewhere? happened on the midget and by eck it's a nasty noise

OK, a bit of wiggling and levering and it's the bottom ball joint that's the culprit...the great big one that faces downwards on the strut. It's got a hell of a lot of play in it so that needs to get changed ASAP. Are they a big job?

I'd say replacing a lower balljoint is one of the more difficult jobs on a P6. The pillar has to be removed and splitting the tapers can be a problem, as can pulling the joint from the pillar after it's removed. Knocking the new joint back in isn't easy either.
