Gearbox oils

Hello.

I'm new to the P6 experience by a matter of weeks. I picked-up an auto that has been converted to SD1 5-speed sometime in the past.

However, disappointingly it does after all have a bit of noise in all gears apart from fourth, but it's not singing too loudly. All shifts are good otherwise. It takes a while to warm, until then some synchros are a bit scratchy like many an old Alfa I've had.

What I'm asking for is advice on oils and additives. Is it worthwhile adding something like molyslip etc or would I be wasting my time? What oils / additives would you recommend?

Ok it seems I asked a daft question..

However I have since read an article that mentions synchro wear and baulkiness when cold, in Range Rovers with the LT77 box.

The article advises on replacing the usual gear oil with automatic gearbox fluid

Yep, In the SD1 'box use ATF or Castrol SMX, if I remember correctly, and if you can still get it!.
The SMX is designed for such manual boxes that are 'baulky' when cold. (NOT P6 boxes though).

I would advise against using an additive.
