Gearbox/clutch problem ?

Having a bad run of luck with my 2000tc at the moment. :(
I put in a replacement engine in around two weeks ago due to burnt out valve.
And now the gearbox has sprung a leak. I have a spare reconditioned one in the shed to replace it with.
I put a new clutch and pressure plate on the replacement box.
I took off the drop arm that connects onto the cross-shaft and slave cylinder because I thought it would be easier to twist the gearbox round in the tunnel.
(I am fitting the gearbox from underneath the car) I got the box back on and bolted. This is the part which I need some advice, When I fitted the cross-shaft drop arm back on and connected it onto the slave cylinder there is no resistance i.e. no clutch.I disconnected the slave cylinder from the drop arm lever and tried it by hand but still no resistance, the lever is moving freely, where have I gone wrong.

So you can turn the splined cross shaft through a complete turn if the drop arm isn't fitted? I doubt that is the case, but if it is, the box will have to come out again. More likely you have the drop arm on the wrong spline. Remove it, then turn the cross shaft clockwise until it stops because the release sleeve has hit the pressure plate, then with it in that position fit the drop arm so it is one spline forward from the vertical.

Hi Harvey,
I cant turn it through a complete turn,it turns about a 1/4 of a turn.
I will move the drop arm tomorrow and let you know the outcome.
Thanks for the super fast reply :D .
