there should be some studs/dimples underneath that 'clip' into the holes. I did away with this and removed the centre consul and glued the 'lip' underneath and its never moved since.

There should be 6 platic studs underneath that the rubber engages on, with metal clips that screw on - 367131. Parts also shows a frame underneath - 367315 maybe .
This pic shows where the studs ONCE Were - the lighter coloured round marks.
thanks for the update, really useful the gator I have the edge has been cut away so the holes are now half rounds!!
also the buttons are as your picture missing,
I think I’ll try and glue it in place, and see how that goes

There is a tendency for the gear lever to pull the gaiter out, particularly in 1st & 3rd. If you can get hold of one of the frames, you can screw small self-tappers in from the underside (small pilot holes in the plastic first) then apply glue as well. It should remain in place then
