Fuel pipe

Hopefully this is the right place;

I have a 1971 Rover 2000 TC. I am desperate to actually start to get something done on it, because i hate it just being sat there being so beautiful and dead.

When we moved it between lock ups toward the end of last year, the fuel ‘pipe’ broke and leaked old fuel from the underside of the car. Fine, I can replace that – but, I am clueless (I really am!!) and I would like to know where I would obtain such a thing. A friend mentioned buying some rubber pipe from a shop called Wag Bennett (or a similar store) here in Essex, im wondering on your opinions on this?

Thanks!

Which part of the fuel pipe broke ? Under the car or under the bonnet ? Rubber pipe would be OK if properly secured but small bore copper pipe would be better for fixed runs

Well, i believe under the actual car, i'll have to get a proper good look into it, ive not been able to get to my lock up for ages due to work and stuff, and its a struggle even getting the bloody car out!

Thanks for the response.

As an aside, if anyone in the area (I'm in Dagenham, Essex - car is located in Barking, Essex) is able to, would you be able to drop me a pm and maybe we can meet up and someone can cast a more knowledgeable eye over the car? We all had to start somewhere, and im very very very novice. I really would greatly appreciate it!

I replaced both the suction lines on my Rover 2000 TC a few years ago. I ran 1/4 in ID, 2 x rubber fuel hoses from the fuel sender to the reserve tap. I was missing some parts, so I soldered in 2 short length of brake lines into the fuel reserve tap, as I did not have the nuts for the compression fittings. The hoses slid over the pipes nicely. If you have the length of old hoses you can cut and slide over the 1/4 inch hose, and clamp it up.

Thanks, i'll bear that in mind!

Cheers :)

My God! Is Wag Bennett still about? They did tend to have everything under on roof in his shops, I certainly never caught him out with anything.
As far as the lines are concerned Firstly whatever you do buy make sure it is definitely fuel hose, many shops may try to sell you any old rubber hose thinking it will do the job. Smaller car spares places normally sell it on the roll by the metre so it would be a case of knowing the inner diameter of the pipe and the length you need. If your local car spares don't have the right stuff you can contact Frost restoration equipment http://www.frost.co.uk/ who may be a bit more pricey but I find their kit to be of good quality and they do send out a nice catalogue too :D I'll try to get under my TC if no one else beats me to it and give you the inner diameter of the pipe.
Good luck.

I recall there being an excellent truckers cafe just along the road from WAG Bennetts - I had many an all day breakfast there

Has Dagenham Rover's plastic fuel pipe degraded and gone brittle or just been damaged and broken ? A local repair might be possible if it's the latter

I believe it degraded and went brittle and broke. The car hasn't moved under its own steam since 1999, so its had a lot of time to sit around and perish. I am hoping someday soon it can hit the road again though!

Here is said car by the way!

And when we moved it last year, check out the dust! The Rover that works is in the background!
