Fuel guage

This morning on the drive to work my fuel gauge decided to make like a metronome and flicked between telling me I had half a tank and three-quarters. It did settle down eventually but I was wondering if this was the start of something serious. I have seen the needle boogey about a bit (steep hills, heavy braking etc) but never a huge amount and never for long. Any ideas folks?

Was the temperature gauge doing the same ? If so, look at the voltage stabiliser

Mine reads zero nearly all the time - then for no reason will work for a couple of days and then be zero again.

I suppose you could start with the easiest by checking the connections to the tank unit are secure and there's no breaks in the wire
