Front hub seal

Could someone kindly post the front hub inner seal size and manufacturer part number. The rover part number is GHS114 but I would like to source from a local bearing/seal supplier.

I have the bearings, Timken Set-6 and Set-2. These come as a trailer bearing kit from timken, Made in USA. Kit number 6011T.

Any thanks
Craig

Try searching for the dimensions of your existing one here:
http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/Seals/c19/index.html

I get all my seals and bearings from these sort of suppliers. The biggest range and lowest price (branded) bearings are stocked by these guys, who do free postage as well:
http://www.qualitybearingsonline.com/

I'll never buy a bearing from anywhere else again - for a start you don't know if they're decent branded or pattern parts until you get them. I rebuilt my entire Morris 1000 rear axle and differential (6 bearings, 3 seals and various thrust washers) with good quality SKF C3 bearings for about £75. Doing that through the Minor suppliers would have come in at upwards of £200, and with no guarantee of quality. If I wanted a recon axle done for me, it would have been £450+ exchange. It just shows you the mark-up on some products - priced for the market's expectation, not just a nominal % mark-up for the reseller.

Thanks Redrover. But I don't have the original seal out. I plan to have the bearings and seals ready to go before I start.I just need dimensions or manufacturers part number for the seal.

Thanks,
Craig

Hi Craig,

I am interested in the specs for the oil seal too. Timken don't appear to make the oil seal any more, of if they do, they certainly don't supply them as a complete kit.

I purchased a set of Timken bearings from a local bearing supplier (mine were made in Poland), but no oil seal. They were unable to find one listed either.

The original front bearings in my Rover were made by SKF, but I replaced them with Timkens (that set was made in Australia) well over 20 years ago, and they have been running perfectly ever since. They have covered a far greater distance than the original SKFs.

Ron,

I've searched all of James numbers with no luck on the dimensions. Searching the net I came across some other numbers WR1192 which I can find. This has a dimension of 82.55mm ID x 101.8mm OD x 11.89mm W. This seems too large. The other number I came across from a seal on eBay was a Payen seal NA541. No dimensions yet.

I'm hoping someone on the forum has a seal handy which from which they can post the part numbers and dimensions.

Craig

I have just changed the front seal (Rover part # GHS114) and I have an old seal that came out, and the one I bought ready for the other side.

I have had the seals on my shelf for quite some time and I don't have any other part number for you - sorry. I got them from Ian Wilson, so I am sure that Geoff at Wins will still have them available.

I measured an OD of 66.8 mm and an ID of 53.4 mm.

The following appears on the face of the seal (in no particular order) NTK 1078 SC 262 212.

Hope this helps a little.

Mark Gray shows them as in stock - http://shop.roverp6cars.com/epages/es14 ... iewProduct

I thought i was going to be able to help for once but when i looked at my spares it was GHS115 i have for the rears

Thank you All,

After much sleuthing this is what I have:

Seal is Imperial size; OD = 2-5/8" (2.625") x ID 2-1/8" (2.125") x W 3/16" (0.18")
……………………………………………..262……………………..212………………..018
…………………………………………… 66.68mm…………….53.97mm…………..4.75mm
Seal Code; W262212018 R4 Metal body, single lip
……………………….……..R21 Rubber coated, single lip
……………………….……..R23 Rubber coated, single lip with wiper (this would be best)

So from any bearing/seal supplier you should ask for an Imperial size seal code number W262212018R4 or R21 or R23

No direct Metric equivalent although Timken #225410 is OD 66mm x ID 54mm x W 7.5mm

Hope this is of help.

Craig

Rimmer Bros do the front hub oil seal GHS114. (and the rear hub oil seal as well GHS115) I could get bearings ok locally on shelf as above Timken set 2 and set 6 (thanks to craig's info), but bearing vendor could not pin down oil seal from his Federal Mogul catalouge so after lack of response/reply's from two other UK websites I went for Rimmer Bros (in UK).

The front hub oil seals I sourced were of the rubber coated type with single lip seal and of NTK brand who are a large manufacturer of oil seals/o rings etc in China, they are good quality as I have dealt with them in my mechanical trade. All the other sources mentioned above and their associated photos all show similar rubber coated type so that seems to be all what is available as I have not seen any of the original steel casing type. CR (Chicago Rawhide, owned by SKF) do steel casing type but couldnt locate in required size. It would have been preferable to have them with the outer dust lip as Craig mentioned above (as this can be packed with a little grease as well) but looks like we can only get rubber cased for now.
Regards,
Scott
