Foaming PAS fluid

I had Hazel out for the first time in a while the other day.

The PAS that I've fitted often tends to groan a bit when it's cold but quickly gets better. However, this time there was leaking fluid & when I had a look, the fluid was like this:

Clearly there's air in the system, but how? After a warm-up, everything seemed to be OK again, so it's a bit of a mystery to me :hmm:

Hi, It can also indicate cavitation as in the supply to the pump is restricted, I have even had a piece of paper off the filter laying across outlet at the bottom of the reservoir. More likely it's the supply hose is soft and partially collapsed.

It can also be the filter blocked. It can force the fluid out of the tiny hole in the reservoir cap. It's always worse in the cold weather.

If it is cavitation occurring the pump will sound noisy at high revs, just depends if you can hear it over the engine noise.
The supply hose can look visual good from the exterior, but the hose can break down internally and restrict the flow when the pump sucks.
The pump should not be run in this condition for too long as damage will be caused.
