when my engines ticking over on my series 1 v8 the oil light fliggers even when I rev it also.
the engine itself is qieut as a mouse no rattling or knocking atall.
when first starting it I did it gently as normally this means a shortage of oil/pressure
could it be a faulty switch ?
any help please
regards
paul

This is not the definitive answer , but i'd suspect the oil pressure sender first , especially if this problem has come on all of a sudden , and as it doesn't go out as the revs rise . First thing to do is give the sender unit a bit of persuasion by reaching down into the front of the engine bay and clobbering it with the end of a bar :D
If that doesn't work report back .

thanks stina
ive not long had the car but it has been in a garage for approx. 1 yr so will try that first.
shouldn't be nothing major as the engine purrs no unuasal noises.
just read your ad ref possible sale of your car sorry to hear this
I had to get rid of my p5b coupe a few yrs ago it was a lovely example but I was self employed builder and the recession hit me hard so my luxury had to go so was a hard decision to make.
looks a nice car

If She's been sat for awhile then it's likely the sender is still resting ! a capillary gauge plumbed into the oil light gallery would tell all ! There are likely folk on here able to help with that :D

Just to avoid any confusion, the oil pressure transmitter and the oil warning light switch are not one and the same, indeed if I recall correctly, the series one cars do not have the former as they don't have an oil pressure gauge as standard.

The oil warning light switch can misbehave resulting in the oil warning light remaining on, sometimes continuously.

Your best bet Paul would be to replace the switch, which is located on the oil pump front cover. If after having done so the oil warning light continues to light, then you'll need to investigate further.

Hmmm , here we go again . I thought it went without saying , We all know the series 1 cars have no gauge , and i'm sure Paul would of given us any readings on any gauge that was retro fitted to his car . Surely hitting and manipulating any protruding electrical device on the oil pump before going to the expense of replacing it is the first step Ron ? A belt with an iron bar or a little investigating costs very little .
