flickering lights

Hi there, my lights (headlights, tail lights and interior lights) flicker while at idle and think it may be the alternator?
Could this be or could it be something else causing it?
Thanks Karl

It probably is the alternator, it could be charging intermittently or it may just be on the cusp of charging/not charging if your idling speed is low. If you have no other problems when driving normally and it shows about 14 - 14.4 volts at 2000 engine rpm I wouldn't worry.

ok thanks, ill put a meter on it and check.
Idle speed is good, if a little on the high side.
There are no other problems.(electrically) :)

Hi!
I had the same problem about 20 years ago. It started with a flickering amp-meter needle at idle but soon it was flickering lights and needle at any speed.
I first bought a new 4TR regulator and then overhauled the alternator, but still the same fault. I then gave up and left the car to a LUCAS serviceman. He found a voltage drop in the + feeding cable (Brown/ Blue) from the ignition lock to the 4TR regulator. The simple solution became a relay for that feeding.
