4 tr control boxHi all im fitting a new wiring loom to rosie (2000sc 1971), but im fitting the newer type loom were the fuse box sits inside the car on passenger side.
all is going well but ive hit a problem on rosie there is a 4 TR control box with 4 wires coming out .
they are as follows left to right brown with blue tracer ,brown with purple tracer the black and last wire is brown with gree tracer.
but on th new loom i have wire as follows grey and brown, black ,white and a brown.
question does anyone know which replaces which , ive traced the white and i think that replaces brown with blue .
also ive add a starter solenoid which i did nt have on old loom but is on new loom.
ive noticed that the 1975 white rover i have does not have the control box but does have the solenoid.( does one replace the other).
i was hoping this would be a simply job but its proving a problem.
please see pics attacted
any help would be most welcome.
the rest is going ok with only minor wire changes in colour.
thanks marcus

I read your post in the other thread where you said that the loom you are fitting is from a later car. This won't have any provision for a 4TR as the car the loom came from would have been fitted with an 18ACR. Your easiest way around the problem is to get the mini-loom that has the 18ACR plug on it which runs from the starter motor, and fit an 18ACR instead of the 11AC.

Thanks harvey for your reply, i will do just that and see how all goes,
i do have another question thou.
on my alternator i have three wires (old loom) but only 1 was connected this being the brown with white tracer, the other 2 were taped up these being Brown and green tracer also the brown and purple tracer .
which just happen to be the same as the wires from the control box any ideas at all why they would be taped sorry for so many questions.
thanks
marcus

If the old loom and alternator were 11AC then I can't think why those wires would have been taped up, and how the alternator could have charged if they were. Only reason could have been fitting an ACR and then the 4TR and 3AW would have been redundant.

hi Harvey ive followed the brown and yellow wire on the old loom and it headed to just under the dash but from there i ve no idea, and like you i cant get my head round how it charged with just the one wire fitted.
but it was fine with this set up before the loom went into melt down.
the brown and yellow wire went to a female connection but from there ive no idea were it went.
so im guessing that someone at some point by passed the tr 4 control unit.
im just wondering if i can get old of a old loom and remove the need wires or use as a copy.
wishing i had nt touched it now :(

Hi all ive now solved this problem by fitting hte newer starter and charger with one off my scrap 2200 sc engine.
big thanks to Harvey for helping me understand how and what this system does.
ive still lots to learn but i love that im learning new things all the time, also i must learn to step back think and approach things in a relaxed manner and dont PANIC :D .
also thanks Ian (rover classics) again for putting up with my usual stupid questions.

hi ive now fitted the newer starter and alternator which is fitted to the 1975 loom ,ie same as my white rover with starter solenoid on ns front inner wing.
i do have these 4 wires thats not on my 1975 wiring loom in white rover anybody have them and know what they do.
i have now removed my 4 tr unit, in all my manuals there is mention of grey wires at all.
