Hi everyone i want to buy new seals for my final drive but i dont know the name of them, ive been at wadhams searching but they dont have pics or much info
My questions are...
What would wadhams call it?
Are they flat on one side and then rounded or are mine squashed, was thinking if they where round i could try a seal shop
and match them up. Any key words to help me buy them would be a great help.

if i cant find them i was thinking maybe putting a bit of gearbox sealant around them, going by the design it shouldnt go into the unit. would that be a bad thing?

Hello Bert,

I have some NOS oil seals which I'll take some photos of. It is 10:37pm now, so I'll post some pics tomorrow if that is ok?

It's just an "O" ring, the metal part in your pic is not part of it.
If you want to get at the seals you need to press the collar off, and then press the shaft out of the bearing. On reassembly you should use a new collar.

Thanks Harvey, I will try my local seal shop and ask for an O ring, although they havent been great in the past so ive ignored them lately and bought online in England, im not that experienced with part names, thats my biggest issue.

Hi Bert,

I was thinking along the lines of that you wanted the oil seals, as opposed to the 'O' rings (549226) which fit between the drive shaft and the housing. For the latter if you take one and the drive shaft assembly along to a bearing supplier, they should be able to find a match without too many problems.

Glad to help Bert. With regard to the 4.6 litre, that engine was first manufactured in 1994, 18 years after the last P6B rolled off the production line. The 4.6 in my Rover was made around 2002 and was a one off installation.
