Hi all,
I'm currently in the process of recommissioning my 2000SC and I've had a recurring "patter" from the exhaust of the car from before I laid it up. I thought it may be carburation related and as the old carb was quite worn I got a good S/H replacement and fitted it today. After a bit of fettling getting the mixture and timing in (dizzy had been disturbed during camchain and main bearing replacement) I started the car up and it still has the patter from the exhaust, it sounds like a bad mixture but when I try to dial the mixture either way the sound doesn't get any better, it just gets more or less even in it's frequency but is always there. I can't help thinking it could be an ignition issue as I've fitted a Pertronix and ever since I've had trouble dialling the timing in. It really isn't happy running at anything less than about 14deg, I've got it at about 4deg @ 950rpm at the moment but the car is not as smooth as it should be at this setting.
I've done a video of the exhaust note and wondered if there's any light anyone could shed on this for me:

All help appreciated,
Jon.
*Edit*
One of my theories on the ignition being at fault is that I wondered if the discharge from the H/T could be affecting the electronic unit in some way, could go some way to explaining the timing problem. Also, when I had the car on the road before lay up when you got the ignition timing happy for idle, when you revved the engine the advance was coming round to about 40deg., when you brought the timing back to knock back the max advance it would pink something rotten under load.
