I fitted a new stainless steel exhaust from P D Gough Ltd to my 1974 P6B automatic last year. I was unable to attach a u-clamp to the joint on the right-hand downpipe where it passes under the sump because of lack of clearance (about 5mm available). I blew the original engine in 1990 and it was rebuilt using a P5B block. After discussions with P D Gough Ltd about the problem it seemed that the probable cause was that the P5B exhaust manifolds were used on the re-built engine instead of the P6B units --- apparently the P5B manifolds are shorter vertically than those in the P6B. Last week I had the exhaust manifolds replaced with a pair taken from a scrapped P6 VIP, but I still have the problem. Has anyone experienced a similar problem with P D Gough exhausts? Another possibility is that the sump is not from a P6B. Can anyone tell me the correct depth for the shallow bit of the P6B sump --- i.e. the dimension from bottom face of the block to the underside of the shallow section of the sump?
