Ex-Met Police 3500 P6 sold at Historics Auction, Ascot

This tidy P6 with a lot of police provenance sold for £17,070 at the weekend. What do people think of that price? It seemed to me that a lot of high-end stuff wasn't meeting reserve but under-£20k cars did quite well.

Again, for something that unique, that appears to be in good condition, I don't think that's too bad at all! I doubt it would have made quite that much if it didn't have all of the police equipment still.

Definitely a part of P6 history, but hardly a 'daily driver.' Are you allowed to run his on the road??
I think you just need to cover the blue light and disable the two tones.

I suppose the mileage is verified, but the driver's seat doesn't say 1,600 miles to me. I once bought a Piaggio scooter from the Met, I can't recall exactly, but I think it only had around 40 miles on it (still had some of the protective/shipping plastic on it).

Surely the odometer reading shows that it has travelled less than two thousand miles since it last went "round the clock"!?
I chuckled at the inclusion in the sale of an officers flat hat and a pair of handcuffs, a nice pair of props with which the new owner can indulge in a bit of 'cosplay'!

I imagine that no-one wanted to use the Piaggio as a pursuit vehicle for fear of ridicule, whereas the Rover..........

The same car sold at Mathewsons in Aug 2021 for £15,750. Somehow, I doubt that it's the genuine mileage from new ;), although it might be the mileage since restoration (I haven't read the details).

Hi Guys. I am the new proud owner of the ex Metropolitan Police Car and very new to Rover P6 cars... Although my brother is very well versed, owning two 1963 Pre Production models for the last 40 years or so. I thought I'd clarify to perhaps find a true value for these cars that have led an interesting career, the hammer price was £15k plus the commission taking it upto the 17k figure... She's a lovely car. Tony's is correct, she was sold at Mathewson's in Aug 2021 for the same price. The Milometer is working so I don't think the previous owner travelled a mile in the car as it was recording the same mileage when I bought it as it was when he bought it!!!.... I've since added 100 miles or so.... She really needs recommissioning which I'm in the process of doing and then she'll be ready for a Rover P6 magazine article so you can all get to know her and see what a special, interesting and important part of the P6 history she is! If anyone has any information of this car, please feel free to contact me on 07990 528123 or email enquiries@theicecreamcentre.co.uk

I am glad the car has gone to an owner who appreciates it.
Car like this are an important par of P6 history, from a time when the Police used British crs and not, as we see on TV (Police interceptors) Japanese or German cars. Many Police I have spoken to have recalled the days of P6 patrol cars with affection.
In fact, in my experience, if you are going to break the speed limit, do it in a P6 and you stand more chance of getting off with a warning
