ET headrest lights

Hi can any one supply the maplin part nos for these as i can not find any ref for them? or better still original ones. And a big thank you if any one could supply a wiring solution for them And if they can be wire to come on when the doors are opened?? and still work independently if you wish to use them in their own right  [ Like Alice, I like to believe in three impossible thinks before breakfast ]

It's the same as P5B interior lights do, so is possible & wouldn't take a lot of wiry jiggery-pokery. Just a live supply & the earth split, one going through the switch on the headrest & an extra wire spliced into the door switch earths.

My preference if you didn't want to wait out for an original set of lamps would be to use the afforementioned P5B interior lamps. You could mount them to the underside of the headrest so that they shine backwards only and don't distract the driver. They are available new:

These have a three position switch. So the people in the rear can turn them off altogether. They could turn them to permanently on - perhaps fed from the instrument lights feed located in the auto gear selector so that they can only be used with the lights on? - or from a permanent live. Or they could turn them to on with the interior lights - the feed would come from behind the drivers side screen pillar trim, which is where the feed goes up to the centre roof lamp.

The difficult bit is arranging a neat feed up into the headrest. You'd need a covered three core (live instrument feed, live interior lamp feed and earth return) and you'd have to accept the visible bit up the stem of the headrest. It can then run to the floor inside the back of the seat - secured by a single screw on later cars, unclips complete on earlier ones. At the floor you can hide all sorts of bodges in the carpet!

In my P5 I have these lamps as original. I however decided to modify them slightly.

Replaced the volume switch with a 3 position swtich. I can have the normal 4 interior lamps on or both reading lamps. Not much use to the p6. But when I re-jigged them I wanted control via the switch in the head rest as well as the console. I suppled the bulb with a +ive supply and the switch is earthed completing the circuit when operated.

I would not use the P5 interior lamp (also fitted to MGB and TR dashboards) as they are bigger than they look. Something like the SD1 glove box lamp. which is recessed or perhaps a recessed number plate lamp. Just nip down the scrapyard and find something you like.
