Engine removal, throttle linkage question

Step 15 in "Engine and gearbox, to remove and refit, Operation A1-3A" in the Rover manual says: "Disconnect the throttle linkage at the upper ball joint of the vertical rod. Disconnect the throttle countershaft support bracket from the steering column". Is this really necessary, especially regarding the support bracket? I can't see, except for the cable, that it has any attachment with the engine or gearbox, or that it should be in the way during the lift (my car has left hand steering if it has any significance).

Comments?

If I recall correctly, it is necessary to disconnect the support bracket on TC cars to enable the rod to be withdrawn so that it is not bent when the engine is lifted. Incidentally, by a coincidence my Daughter-in-law Malin is from Vaxjo
