Engine Oil

Can any of our NZ contributors advise if any of the oils listed by Chrisyork on 4 January 2011 are available in NZ? I hoped to be able to get some Penrite oil in Hastings but when I went over there last week the firm who listed Penrite oils has disappeared. Thanks

Also note that Millers has a specification of SJ where as others like Comma, Morris and Halfords are still only SE or SF which were current 18 or 20 years ago but things have moved on IMO :)
Check each oil spec and data before you makes your choice

Personally, I've been thinking of using Morris Multivis 15/40. Meets SL and SJ specifications.

Having emailed Morris, I was told:

Multivis 15W/50 currently contains the following:

Zinc 1050 - 1230 ppm
Phosphorus 1050 - 1130 ppm

The ability to buy 25l in bulk at a time from here (slightly cheaper) keeps me tempted as it'd be suited to all my vehicles...

Sorry for any confusion, I was referring to the 20/50 that had been mentioned along the way :)
That 15/40 has a good spec

Oops.

I made an error in my post, instead of typing 15/50, it came out as 15/40. The Multivis is a 15/50 mineral oil.

I was thinking the lower viscosity when cold ought to aid cold starting over a 20/50. At present, I'm running a 15/40 in mine, and cold weather starting is fine, but it is perhaps a little thin when warm - not too bad in this weather, but I wouldn't want it in the summer.
