Engine Number, where?

A 1971 3500 V8 should usually have the engine number stamped on the left hand side of the block base.

Mine hasn't a lug there with a number. It doesn't, in fact, have a lug where a number should be.

Is it stamped elsewhere depending on the year?

I need the engine number to pass roadworthy.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Fraser,

Have a look on the block adjacent to where the dip stick tube exits. If it is not there, then it has likely been ground off at some point. The compression ratio will also be there alongside.

Ron.

There isn't anything there.

It doesn't even look like there has been a flat surface to mount too either.

There was a 76 Range Rover in the garage at the same time and I could identify the engine number straight away on that v8.

Hi, Is it behind the left hand head where the bellhousing bolts up? If it is then it's an earlier engine.
