hi all, i have just found a leak on my 2000sc block. It is down by the coolant drain plug but not leaking from the plug itself.has anyone else had this and what is normaly the prob? also if i have to take off the plate where can i get a replacement gasket for the block?? thanks stuart.

Hi Stuart,
This sounds like the classic engine side plate perforation. Over the years the water has gradually rusted its way through from the inside out and the leak will now only get worse. The plate can be removed in situ and is pretty straightforward though a bit fiddly. Support the engine on the sump (big block of wood to spread the load)remove the engine mount and then its just a case of removing the ring of bolts that hold it in place. Ones behind a the oil pump are a bugger (made easier by removing pump and pipes) but can be done. Gasket available from your prefered specialist supplier as are the side plates, though I had mine fixed by a mate who 'floated' some brazing metal into the long line of holes that were present at the bottom. Its lasted 10 years so far so can't be that bad.
Good luck ;)
