Hallo,
After struggling to fit a speedo cable into the head at the dash, I have given up and resolved to let a mate have a go. I haven`t touched the car for about 10 days and was expecting the battery to need a boost as it is a bit old and usually does after a week or so. The battery seems fine and in a good state of charge but the car won`t fire up. It was starting with no problem before I took the dash apart. I didn`t disconnect any wiring intentionally, and can`t see anything disconnected. Any ideas? ???

I just did a couple of checks, no spark at points or plugs, fuel OK, swapped condenser for a known good one and still nowt! I`ve never had a coil just stop working without any symptoms first, is this possible? Could I have caused some sort of irreversable damage to it if there was a short whilst fiddling with the speedo??? :(

Check to see whether you have a voltage supply to the switch side of the coil. If not run a temporary hotwire supply to there and try and start then.

Harvey,
Started first turn with the hotwire fix. I`ve tried to find something disconnected without luck so far, but at least now I can get it up and see if Pilkie can suss it! :p

Cheers again, Drew
