Early reverse lamp and speedo

Does anybody out there fortunate enough to own an early car have any decent pictures of the reversing light and it's mountings? I'm curious to know what type of light was used (parts catalogue says Lucas or Wipac), how it was fitted, and if you had a towbar, where did it go?

Also while on the subject of early stuff, when was the original 110mph speedo upgraded to the 120mph? James Taylor says early 1966 but I have been looking at some '65 cars and they all have the 120.

I've got the bracket somewhere, with a light on it and IIRC it bolts through the jacking point in the same way that the towbar would if fitted, but I think the reverse light bracket would need modifying to work with the towbar.

It's early than 1966 - I've seen Spring 1965 cars with the 120mph speedo. Change point is about March 1965 IIRC.

I will get some photos of my reverse light and mountings imminently and put them up.

I have been liasing with James concerning me going through the Factory Bulletins for the early cars and getting the facts out there. It will happen - I'm promised a copy.
More to follow, eventually, on that front.

Cheers
Nick

Thanks Nick, Harvey. I'd be really interested in any info on early cars. (I have a plan in the works  ) I have managed to finally track down a 110mph speedo but it is currently bouncing around in the postal system due to a clerical error. :x
What was the deal with the choke knobs and heater controls? I got a bunch of bits a while back that included a set of the small heater control knobs and the '65 car I'm looking at has the small round choke knobs but larger heater controls. When did the hooked cables arrive? 1966?

I've got a first edition 1963 parts catalogue...could scan the page and send it to you if that helps with the nuts and bolts stuff?

Thanks Stan but I've got one of those too. I know theoretically how it all goes together but I would like to see some decent pics to get a better idea. Unfortunately there is only so much one can learn from a line drawing.

Yes - early 1966 - about the February IIRC.

You can get a Dunlop braked, sharkstooth grilled car with the hooked choke/reserve knobs.

That's the business! Thanks Nick, you da man! :D Do you know what brand it is? Looks like a Wipac to me but hard to be sure.

I'd be surprised if it's not Lucas. Will check in a few minutes.

Looks like I've managed to answer my own question about the towbar. :)

Finally got my speedo today! I bought this off Ebay at the end of August, by mid October it had been returned to sender so I paid to have it posted again. It still hadn't arrived by early November so the seller was good enough to send another one which arrived in a week.
It is a NOS very early 110mph speedo in perfect condition. :D :D :D

I also found a Lucas reverse light with the correct bracket on Ebay too but it is in pretty scruffy condition. :(
