Dwell angle adjust

Hi All, my apologies for starting this thread again but I can recall a member describing how to maintain a correct dwell angle on the V8 dizzy by screwing onto the adjuster a "points nut" but I can't remember exactly where, so, can someone advise the exact position please. thanks in advance.

Screw a points nut on to the threaded end of the dwell adjuster (flat side of the nut first) and when the nut comes up against the nylon insert that the dwell adjuster should be threaded into, the nut will hold itself there so the dwell can be adjusted.

Hi Harvey, Thanks for the reply, now just to make sure I understand it correctly, first I unscrew the adjuster completely out from the metal tab, the nylon insert being between the metal tab (which is threaded of course) and the spring, screw the points nut onto the end of the adjuster and re-assemble with the nylon insert still in position, the flat side of the nut against the nylon, then set the dwell angle. (I would attach a photo if I new how to do it!)
Best Regards

Just screw the points nut on to the exposed thread on the end of the adjuster, they will normally go on finger tight, if not use a spanner (2BA IIRC) until it butts up aganst the flat nylon insert. No need to dismantle anything as far as I remember. The friction between the nut and the nylon holds the nut in place, so when you adjust, instead of screwing the adjuster into the nylon you're screwing it into the nut, and providing the nut stays still (which it always has for me) then you can adjust the dwell either way.

Hi Harvey, I've just had a look at the dizzy and the nylon is at the back of the metal tab (i.e. against the spring) so, if I screw the nut on as you say the nut will meet up with the metal tab and not touch the nylon, I am now wondering if mine has been put together incorrect. The car is a 1971 V8 model with original dizzy (do you know how to insert a photo?)

Not a very good pic, but it may give you an idea.

Hi Harvey, thanks for the photo, mine is different to that, the moving plate is smaller and the condensor is fixed to the baseplate and the nylon insert is the other side, I'm thinking I may have to unscrew the adjuster to be able to screw the points nut in position. I have attempted to add a pic but who knows, I'm not to familiar with the workings of a computer. hope the pic sends! (This is my spare dizzy)
Best regards
Dave

Unscrew the adjuster, remove it and the spring, then take the nylon insert out and put it in from the other side, refit the spring and adjuster, fit the points nut to the end of the adjuster, and the job should be a good 'un.

Thanks Harvey, freezing in Sheffield just now so as soon as it gets a bit warmer I will have a look at it and sort it.
Best Regards
