Hi all just finished painting the front wing an valance after finally finding the colour code from one of these fancy machines but typically my dear p6 at somepoint has had a colour change!!!
Been change from almond to red...... But not a Rover red oh no to easy that so turns out to be renault 749 red.
It matches nice but only if i t-cut an polish the rest of the car does anyone have any idea's how i stop my paint from dulling or do i just have to keep t-cutting it then when it wears through get it all it painted???
Which i prob do long term anyhow panel by panel

Cheers

Didn't the machine match the paint to the faded colour ?

If you T Cut and wax polish the whole car you should be OK but the new paint might weather faster than the old paint

T-cut can only do so much...it looks like a poor job in terms of initial paint rub back.
What you may be able to do is wet sand it back with 1200 grit and then compound it to a high polish.
Another way to do things is blow a clear coat lacquer over the top of the existing paint (follow proper prep work of course).
This will bring it up nice and shiny, but is really no substitute for a good paint job in the first instance.
i would be inclined to wetsand and compound...its cheap but is a bit of work, particularly if you do it by hand.
Even a professional "buff" can do wonders to crappy paint...I've seen paint that I thought was beyond redemption come up a treat in the hands of a skilled buffer.
After such a buff, you need to regularly clean and wax the paint, or it will deteriorate quite rapidly.

As said, a good wax gives UV protection as would a good lacquer, which is basically a repaint anyway :|

Usually it's down to the quality of the paint used, reds are sensitive to this too :(

Cheers all. Yeah they cut an compound the panel first before matching it so it is the right colour (ish) just gonna have to do the rest of the car an then paint it all eventually painting it in celly as i can do it on my driveway/garage on a nice day and can't do 2 pack without giving myself Cyanide poisoning. could do a base coat laquer then fading would never a problem but these cars would have been celly from the factory i'm guessing?
Looks nice well on its way now anyway. Also never noticed but every single front indicator unit i've got has the back missing and the bulb falls out.
Fixed that one with a beer can and some mastik just the job
God i love this car can't wait to put some miles on her

Cheers

...I think the Almond was preferable.
By the looks, a lot of improvement could be wrought on that paint.
Its not 2 pack now is it?
if it is, i dont think it can be wet sanded.
Imo acrylic is the best of all worlds...easy to work with, durable and amenable to rectification i.e wet sand and compound if it doesn't go so well first up out of the gun

No not 2 pack to be fair it polishes up ok with a good gmop an some g3 just goes mikly real quick. Thought about changing colour completely but would have to have been white an maybe use her as a wedding car.
A lesson lern't from buying this labour of love is never buy blind offa ebay.

Get my mgb back from the welders next week he's only had it 2 years

cheers

I have not read all the replies but please remember that things like t cut and g3 etc... actually remove product! the more you rub the more comes off.
If you have a halfords bnear you They have an offer on farécla g3 products.
1.wash the car (not washing washing up liquid as this removes grease and has salt in it)
2.scratch remover
3.paint renovator
4.resin polish

you dont need to do all 4 steps everytime maybe once a year but treat the car to a good polish every month, this should remedy the milky paint finish.
Hope this helps

I hate to think what 2 yrs welding labour will be! :?:
It must of been a near basket case!! :|

he was gonna charge me £3500 but we arranged to £1600 as the fact he'd had it so long, not a total basket case but defo a little tin worm but looking spot on now just gotta stop pulling the rover to bits an i'll crack on

here is some good advice, 2 pack can be wet sanded , ive done it myself, spraying one car outside probably wont do too much damage if you research 2 pack the problems are cumulative , modern paints dont have so much free isocyanates as the original paints i was told ,if you go to machine mart they do a filter / regulator and mask quite cheaply , as long as your compressor can keep up,you can also brush paint the 2 pack without harm to yourself and give a nice finish to those components like suspension parts etc , im painting my elvis statue in the garden in it,good luck ,rich
