Drive it day

A few months ago i responded to member Keesb from Holland asking for information on things to do while on holiday in the south of England . A few PM's exchanged and we agreed to meet on and do the drive it day run organised by the New Forest Classic Group . On the way to the meeting point i pulled in for a quick look at the map , on rejoining the road i looked in the mirror to see Kees and his family come over the brow of the hill in their rather lovely 64 2000 .
After a little confusion we found the meeting point ( I couldn't resist pointing out that Kees had come all the way from Holland and was first to arrive ! ) After introductions , chatting and wondering how many would turn up due to the less than ideal weather , we set off on a run through the forest . A few stops for pics , refreshments etc and we ended up at a pub in the forest , Too busy to even get parked , we went a little further and parked up and made the decision to call it quits , the weather had won out !
Any way , we gave it a shot , met Kees and his family and had a run out :D
A few pics , Kees may add more , i'm a bit rubbish with a camera .

Well me and the naughty boys had a run out around North Lancs/South Cumbria, ending up at the South Lakes Car Museum, where I met this chap, I knew who it was before I saw or met him. This was due to one of the naughty boys asking me "Did Rover ever sell a bright primrose P6?" That'll be Frazer arriving then.

I had a lovely day out with a friend in North Wales. Spent most of the time on Anglesey. Dropped in to say hello to David "Willy Eckerslyke" to swap a few bits and pieces - great to meet you mate. Had a good walk around Love Island (which is beautiful!), and crammed in as many castles as we good. Also bumped into Chris Pamp "Junkman" in Caernarfon who was travelling in convoy with a Volvo Amazon. Saw shed loads of classics, including some very unusual stuff. Fish & Chips on the quayside at Conwy on the way home. A great day out!

We covered 105 miles with the Borders Vintage Auto Club for DID2014. Down through the Scottish Borders and into Frazzle territory for lunch at the famous Star Hotel in Moffat. Weather was a bit dull and drizzly but the 20 or so cars that set off had a good day out.

Didn't expect to find this in the middle of the Scottish Borders

Lovely S1 car you've got there Dave, very nice! Out of interest, did you fitr those raised digit number plates yourself or were they already on the car... ? I'm after a set exactly like this for one of my cars and I'm having trouble finding a firm that does that particular typeface.

Cheers, Nidge

Chestnut in Crosby does them. Few hundred yards from my house.

I was in that Amazon! We saw your car but from a distance so I didn't recognise it.

We were out in my wife's Pug 206, so didn't participate at all.

Saying that, all the way to Southampton & back & I don't recall seeing any classic cars at all.

Thanks for the link Michael but theirs aren't the same font / typeface as the ones on Dave's P6, sounds fussy I know but I'm after the the sort with the more chunky shape of digits (which my Cooper S had when it was supplied new by Stewart & Ardern in Acton) - if you compare Chestnut's raised digit ones with those on Dave's car you'll see what I mean, the rounded numbers and letters like 3, 6, 9, C,G, U etc are subtly different with straight sides and smaller radiused corners. Hope that makes sense!

The ones I want...

The ones Chestnut do...

(apologies for veering off topic)

Thanks Nige, very kind of you to comment.

Unfortunately I can't help with the number plates as they were on the car when I got her. I don't think there are any markings on them to indicate where they came from either, but I'll have a look later.

Looks like you all had great days out. I'd forgotten about it completely to be honest and spent most of the day turning this lot from orange to silver.

Well here you are then, Peter!

I was parked on the square by the Castle (which is second only to Tiannemen - and possibly Tahrir) for having the most number of cars and people driving in every conceivable direction at all times. What are the chances of running into two forum members on the street, eh!

That's alright Nidge, I know what it's like to be fussy myself. Once I've settled on a particular variation of something I won't stop till I can find it!

Ha, brilliant :)

I do like the volvo amazon.

Number plates try framptons that have various styles of digits.

As has been reported, I ended up at Lakeland Motor Museum on the Sunday after lunch. I went down to the Lakes on Saturday, covered a lot of miles, including Honister Pass, and Corney Fell this time round. The 2000 lapped up the miles, and the new electronic ignition has transformed it. It was great to meet John, have a chat, and to see his lovely car 8) I headed home later in the afternoon, and saw quite a lot of classics. I met another forum member, quite by chance, James, in Tebay services, on my way home!
It was great to do some decent miles in the 2000, with no major issues! :D
