Drip, drip, drop... - ...little April showers...

Not sure if this shouldn't be in the 'gearbox' section but here goes.
When I bought Biscuit the previous owner mentioned an oil leak and sure enough, every week the old girl needs a bit of a top up.
I've given everything underneath a bit of a clean and let it settle and the oil appears to be dripping off bolts that hold a tray on under the bell-housing.
Any ideas on probable causes would be gratefully received.

have a look at the area round the back of the headgasket joint,..there is a rubber "o" ring in the block that can deteriorate over time and cause oil to leak under the headgasket and down the back of the engine block,...when i had Hermiones head off that "o" ring was in several bits, hard and brittle

You're right about the "O" ring, but sometimes you can be lucky and it's leaking from the back of the cam cover gasket.Clean the whole area off around the back of the head, take the car for a spin (or run it stationary while looking) and check for the fresh trail of oil.

Cheers guys... while we're here, crank shaft oil seals; do-able without taking the engine out?
