downpipe to manifold joint?

Hi all,

Stores anyone have pictures / info about how the downpipe & manifold mates? Does it use a domed end and pipe mating to it or a donut in between or what?

Reason being, I managed to 'blow' a hole / leak in the joint whilst trying the car out vigorously

So is it a case of remake the joint, cleaned and sealed with some paste or (as usual) but something new?

I'd like to be ready to do it first thing Saturday, so would like to know what bits I need.

Thanks

As you surmise it's a sort of ball & socket joint held tight by a loose ring-clamp around the pipe (which has the domed end) with three nuts & bolts fitting through the clamp & the end casting of the manifold. It's a very good system & AFAIK, doesn't normally fail unless the bolts are loose so try tightening them up, you shouldn't need exhaust cement. Failing that there must be a break in the pipe.
