double-up on pan gasket?

Any harm in trying to seal a chronically leaky pan by using two (cork) gaskets?? (its my neighbor's idea....) I just cannot get that cursed pan to be leak-free - frustrating - thanks all, Steve V.

Make sure the sump flange is perfectly flat, they distort upwards under the bolts and don't clamp the gasket properly, then I'd suggest using a rubber gasket.

+1 for the rubber gasket - i'm annoyed with myself that i didn't fit one to the sump on mine.

Also check where the filler dip tube attaches. Mine was cracked years ago as a result of over tightening. My auto transmission specialist welded it up, and it has held for 16 years now!

Hi,
You can get them from Wins international here in U/K he trades on e bay and ships worldwide.

Hi Steve, Beware the rubber (neoprene gasket) I tried these gaskets but each time they sprung a leak within a couple of weeks, the second one, when I had to remove it, it had split quite badly between the bolt holes on the rear flange!, I don't know if there was a reaction with the fluid but the split was extensive, I hadn't tightened the bolts too much so no problem there, I then went back to the cork type but as Harvey says, it is paramount to level the pan flange, I spent almost 2 hours getting this level so now there is no leak from the flange, however, being a type 35 there will always be a leak from somewhere! Good luck
Dave
