Door to window seals - Fitting advice

One set of door to window seals left if anyone is interested, get them before they go on ebay (and save me the hassle!!)

Dam I missed this thread completly I could have done with them, I might take my perrished ones out and go see a rubber suplier I sometime use over here and see if he has anything similar, then cut to shape myself. in the pics it looks like a T shape with a bit of an angle, I am sure I have used something like this in the past.

If you look in the practical classics and that sort of magazine you will find trim suppliers.

It was a few years ago I did, but I sent off a SAE and they sent me a chart with all the rubber and samples.

I have just had a bit of a result :D went over to pick up the 2 red interiors and also came away with 3 very good slightly used window to door rubbers (genuine) chucked in for free

I've just received a couple of car sets of these seals from Scott's. Beutiful production but of course without the stiffener.

While popping in to Colin Gould at Farringdon the other day he showed me a wizard ruse he has adopted to produce virtually perfect replicas *including* the stiffener. He buys door to glass seals from a well known UK repmobile which cut down (not just the length - he has to take abit off the base as well) in about 15 mins per seal to an absolutely perfect copy of the original. They've got a bit of fur on the face against the glass as well!

I'm having Colin's production and the Scott's ones are going on e bay!

Cheers

Yes please Chris - PLEASE let us know which repmobile and any other nuggets of info on how to trim / instal them. By sheer coincidence I was at S+G Walkers last Friday and enquired about the door seals and he said that he didn't have any and they were like hen teeth to find. Trouble is - however good your rover is it will always look shabby with tatty old door seals - so spill the beans pretty please!!
Cheers

Sorry chaps, I'm under oath to Colin Gould!

BUT they do need a bit of work to get them ready for us non experts to fit; length, holes and grind a bit off the bottom. Colin has got this off to a tee and he doesn't charge a bomb for them. A super result!

Colin is at www.kingsdown.classicgarages.co.uk and is a really knowledgable bloke on P6's.

O.K fair enough - Thanks for the reply.

Any rough price from Kingsdown - used to go there when they were Swindon based for bits but think they are now in Oxford which is a bit too far, but I guess he does mail order ? How near to the orginal do they look - bit concerned it might look like a new bit stuck on an old car, which was one of the reasons for the interest in what they came from, would allow me to get a feel for what they look like on the donor car.

Colin is in Faringdon now, just a short run up the A46 from Swindon.

Appearance is top notch - the presence of the stiffener takes away the shiny, floppy look of some of the other repro's.

Give him a ring for prices.

Hi Chris. This post is very old, but very interesting about producing a replica of the outer door to glass seals. You are mentioning Colin Gould which i have read, has gone to heaven last year. Do you have an idea, which product from the well known UK repmobile he used? Is it from a UK car brand? I have bought these Wadhams reproductions, but i do not understand, why they are smaller than the original ones. Thx for a hint. Regards Christian

Hi Christian, you made it here! He told me they were GM in origin. Possibly Vauxhall Carlton/Opel Omega. I saw an example in his workshop several years ago. They are noticeably different in profile being far less convex but are much higher quality than Rover OEM and far ahead of reproductions. I don't know if anyone can confirm.

That's what Colin divulged to me, some years back, on pain of secrecy or terrible consequences! I've not actually seen any, nor do I know how he trimmed them to adapt them. I'd like to get hold of a set because my clunker needs attention, that is to say bodywork and fresh paint, soon. Sadly even quality reproduction seals from Scotts split and degrade over time.

But which model Carlton. They aren't exactly cheap and plentiful either. But boy, they looked good, better than OEM.

I did a very extensive search on the web to find a seal which has enough outreach to contact the glass. Most model/type brand and aftermarket seals are for a small gap between the door body and the glass. Unfortunately until now no success even with Peters hints.
