Door not quite right

Okay !, This is my first attempt at putting things on the forum. I'm new to computers but not to the Rover P6B.
I have owned my Rover 3500 Auto for more than 33 years (can't bear to part with it !) however I firmly believe that you never stop learning, do we! which brings me to my question. I had the car restored about 6 years ago when all the doors were changed i.e. donor doors but original windows & frames. The front N/S door is slightly out of line i.e. the top LH corner is "in" and the bottom RH corner is "out" (looking from the outside) I have tried to shim the hinges to bring it level but this then throws the window frame out at the top and the door won't close. I have removed the card & fittings from the door interior to look at the inside but there doesn't seem to be much adjustment left to bring the window frame in at the top. Can any of you experts out there give me any ideas, I would be very grateful. :|

Hi DAV8,,
And welcome to the best P6 forum there is!!
Now its back to live posting again!!
Anyway!! You should start adjusting by removing any shims that are on the hinge points, either on the door part or on the body. Remove the lock strikers on the pillar so it doesnt jam when you close it. See how it sits then start to shim it as req a little at a time there is little adjustment from the frame, but you will have to loosen all the frame mounts just enough till you can persuade the frame to come in a little, and stay in position while you do them up! When you have it all sitting right in its recess then fit the striker plates and adjust them if req!! Problem is that once one panel is ok another will be out,and you will end up chasing the adjustment all round the car! It can be a real pain!! See the other threads about adjusting panel gaps!!
There are many points of adjustment on the doors that a small bit out at one point will give a big gap at another,it is a very delicate balance of,in,out,up,down, left.right, tilt, twist!!!
Best of luck!!
Dont hesitate to ask ANY questions however trivial it may seem to you,as I am sure help and hopefully the answer will be on the forum somewhere.

Cheers Dave

I have done this a few times and sounds a bit daunting! but sometimes it's the only alternative, given that over the years some panels may have been replaced, albeit not correctly!

Oh, welcome to the forum,

Mike.

Could be the door needs a little brute force to twist the frame . Shut it with a block of wood in the frame to push one corner out

What a fantastic response, I always knew that this would be the best P6 forum ever as well as the P6 Rover being one of the best classic cars ever !! Thanks very much to all, I'll try some of your suggestions in the near future.
