Does Anybody Really Pay These Prices?

I prefer the tear drop style headrests as I think they suit the 'lean' build style of the p6's. I think et's look more in keeping with 'fuller' P5 styling.

Mark.

Of course the buyers & sellers will decide, that's the market. The real point is that the rest of us are entitled to our opinions & the right to express them even at the risk of, God forbid, 'interfering' with somebody else's sale.

I'm of the opinion that we should all be helping each other. I'm very grateful to several forum members for providing me with parts at very cheap, even free sometimes which keep my cars on the road. So whenever possible I will do the same to other members. Again if someone is selling something that we feel is overpriced, why can't we say that, in fact we always have. How many cars come up for sale on eBay and someone says it's overpriced, not worth half that etc.
So thanks to all the forum members who's main aim is to help others keep their cars on the road by keeping the prices reasonable. I doff my cap to you guys.
Just to add, I love the ET's, when adjusted correctly driving a longer distance is so relaxing.

I've consulted with some members and mods, and on this occasion there has been no discussion of anything apart from price, so I'm going to let this run. If somebody pays a price it's fine. If not, they don't sell it and that's also fine. A little discussion around it as long as there is no personal slight or undue questioning of peoples motives is fine. If anybody else disagrees please pm me, ron, chrisw or Nick, and we'll listen and act if necessary..

I like them. Front and rear, and have both in both of my cars. I didn't pay that much for them though and probably wouldn't. I guess it's all relative. If you have a lot of disposable cash then that price may be acceptable.

I think most forum members offer parts around the forum at a reasonable price before listing them on ebay for example. I, however, wouldn't dream of asking that sort of price from a forum member for a part that seems to be more widely available than its "rarity" would suggest.

Expression of free opinion within the guidelines of the forum (& those guidelines within the framework of the free speech societies in which most of us live). As it should be.

I have no axe to grind with the seller, good luck to him if he can get his asking price & good for anyone who thinks that the items are worth the money & can afford it. But sellers deserve no special protection from the views of people who disagree with their prices. They pluck their numbers from the air & take their chance in the marketplace.

Im in the " market will decide " court . My scrooge stops me in my tracks if the price is OTT.
I don't begrudge someone asking top dollar .
I Have coveted ET's just to have a change . Never owned a pair as they were not seen around these parts . The old can't get it now I want it syndrome .
Getting them usually involves huge freight costs , which adds to their rarity .
For me the Tear drops always looked 21st century and futuristic ,just as the P6 was back in the day .

I've only sat in a car with them fitted for a short while , and i don't doubt they're comfortable , but as someone else said i think they look better in a p5 than a p6 . Fortunately i'm still young enough to hold my head on with the muscles designed for the job

Both the safety issue and the fact that they are very comfortable on a long drive makes them a winner with me.

I had them in my 1972 2000 auto when that got agressively written off - it's pretty likely I'd have had at least whiplash injuries if they'd not been there.

Worst thing about rear headrests is it makes opening the rear quarterlights at a stop in traffic, for more ventilation, difficult :)

I think the safety thing is a non starter . We're talking 40 odd year old motors , I know how strong and advanced they are/were . But if we really considered safety we'd be looking at new jap crap and euro boxes , wearing dog tags with allergies and blood groups , and dosing up on morphine before we left home so as to be one step ahead when the inevitable happens ( Hmmm ! ) Nick , do you have a shed full of the things to list too !! ?

I agree.

I leapt virtually unscathed from the worst case scenario of a head on collision.

This was in March 2013 and Lil, the Three Thousand Five, showed how well designed these cars are.

No head rests, no seat belts.

I only found out yesterday that the steering wheel was ruined from where I braced myself before the impact - now that it is free spinning in the carcass of the wrecked vehicle it can be seen to be severely buckled in two places where I'd gripped the wheel.

I still believe in inertia seatbelts - If I'd had a passenger in the front seat they wouldn't have been so fortunate - they would probably have been flung through the windscreen.

I find that ETs really do transform the comfort of a P6, on a long run, in particular. Not so pleasant in the rear, as they are massive, but, I don't sit in the back of my own car, so I don't care. In terms of price, the market decides, I suppose, but I think anything over £100 for front ETs is a bit silly. The two in my car were a fiver, or a tenner, from memory.

I have just come across this post having checked the 'new posts' section for views/replies to a wanted post I put up earlier today, and totally coincidentally, I sold a pair of buckskin ET's a few days ago. I did not advertise them, a guy came to buy a 2000 P6 I was selling, and spied the ET's in my V8 project, and asked if I wanted to sell them. I said yes, make me an offer, so he offered me £200!! No haggling, he offered it, and I took it! I hate the things myself, and was going to put them on ebay at some point anyway. So yes, people will pay whatever they want OR can afford for an item, if they want it bad enough.
I have paid way over what 'some people thought I should pay' for a part I needed badly for another Classic car I have, because I needed it, could afford it, and owning the part was more important to me than its cost. On other occasions though, I have turned down parts because I did not want to pay what the seller wanted, and knew if I waited, another would come along in time, at a cheaper price, because I did not need it as bad as I might have at another point in time.
You take it or leave it, as the buyer it is your call whether or not to spend the money, and as the seller it is your right to ask whatever you want for an item, and you may or may not get it! It really is as simple as that.....

Hi, TRM. How much can a bulb and bulbholder be? I will give you a fiver and risk being done

Colin

Sometimes I pay over the odds if I just get the feeling I want something ! £19 for about 6 pages

Sometimes I pay what I think is fair ! £10 for a saucer is a bit steep but only one I've seen :D

Sometimes you get a bargain ! £12 for a brand new boot mount badge in the box

So I guess its up to the individual and what they like and what they think is to much money, but yes sometimes I pay those prices. But I wouldn't pay more than £50 for E.T.'s as I'm just not keen on them

I couldn't possibly break them, Colin.

i have the et front ones as they came with the ( overpriced) car. would def fit teardrop type but doubt I can ever afford them even if a pair did emerge. not even sure what colour I need as all I know is car seats are in 'ambla' sort of sand colour.
