Diff input shaft upgrade.

I have heard of a hardened or up graded diff input shaft, for a P6B 3500 is there such a thing, if so is it worth the effort.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated, Thanks David

Hi David,

Breaking differential input shafts is more down to the behaviour of the driver rather than a serious misgiving in terms of shaft strength. Whilst it is true that they are the weak link in the differential, you'll really only run the risk of breaking one if you drive in such a manner where traction is lost. The point at which traction is regained is where damage can be done.

My Rover runs a 4.6 litre engine which delivers some 50% more torque compared to the 3.5, and I have not had any problems (so far, typing very quietly).

Ron.

The input shaft is supposed to be the weak link, but in practice it's the output shafts that break, I've done hundreds of those, but only one input shaft.

Hi Ron, mines a 4,6 with a T5 man, yes I understand the right foot makes all the difference. Think I'll just get the diff swap under way.

Thanks David.

Hi David,

I figured from your hill climb video that there was much more under the bonnet than a 3.5, so hearing that you have a 4.6 confirms what I was thinking. Look forward to seeing how the diff swap goes.

Yeh the old girl created a bit of interest with the older fellas, the young blokes in there Skylines couldn't work out how a mustard shoe box with wheels went up the hill so quick. Also in her favour I drove it to and from the hill climb and did my 4 runs all on halve worn Yoko 509s, not intermediate race rubber like theres. Still get a cheeky grin when I think about it.
