Just started to work on underside and found the de-dion gator well gone it had ben covered with a strip of leather jubileed over - quite some years ago by the looks of it .

On removal the oil leaked out of what was left of the old gaitor underneath - one more to sort out.

Removed de- dion tube today new seals and gaitor on order for fitting after clean up and re paint.

My question is what oil do you fill with on refit - Hypod gear oil?

both elbows seem fine should i traet these before refit with wax oil or similar?

cheers

You don't "refill" with oil, as that implies that you add oil until it comes out of the plug, the amount that should be used is 1/3 pt, so unless you are adding to a known dry tube you won't know how much is in there already, so you have to make an educated guess.

It should not take too much oil at all. If the sills are good then the space for the oil has to fill is not much. With the sills blown then inner part of the inner tube will fill up with oil. When I did mine it was obvious someone had been 'topping it up' instead of fixing the leak. Loads of oil came out, guess it stopped it from rusting.
